What is a softwood versus hardwood? Softwood is generally an evergreen tree whereas hardwood is from deciduous trees.
Why use softwoods? Softwood grows and reaches maturity much quicker than hardwoods thus a much more sustainable product.
Do you need to chemically treat the Larch to preserve it? There is no requirement to treat Larch. Larch has a high resin content that protects the wood much longer than other softwood types such as spruce. There is also no harm to the environment with not using chemicals.
How long will the timber last? In an outside environment an expectation would be for larch to last at least 15 – 20 years with no treatment.
Will I need to paint it? There is no requirement to paint. In fact as Larch matures it changes colour to a silvery grey which is very attractive.
Where do you get the wood from? Larch milled by the Woodmiller is all locally sourced withing central Scotland. Last delivery of Larch came from Just outside Bridge of Earn.
Can you deliver? Local delivery will be completed by one of the team. For further afield we can discuss and arrange.
British Larch is highly recommended as cladding in construction areas where durability and strength are extremely important. As well as extremely popular for use as cladding it is popularly used to make doors, frames, and roofs. Owing to its high resin content, the wood also offers high durability underwater.
